Pre-flight checks (night before)
Checkbox state is saved in your browser. Run through this once per venue you deploy to.
Five steps on site
-
Check the output path
Confirm HDMI routing, switchers, splitters, and display inputs before troubleshooting the software layer.
- What to do
- Disable mirroring in System Settings and set the venue screen as an extended display.
- Success check
- The browser window is on the venue monitor with correct aspect ratio.
- Common pitfall
- HDMI switchers can trigger HDCP errors and black frames.
-
Check fullscreen and resolution
Make sure the layout looks correct on the real venue aspect ratio and display chain.
- What to do
- Move the browser to the venue screen and go fullscreen (Cmd/Ctrl + F or the fullscreen button).
- Success check
- The image fills the screen with no letterboxing.
- Common pitfall
- macOS has a separate "presentation" concept that can still let notifications through — double-check.
-
Check the network
Confirm that video retrieval and external data behave properly on the actual venue connection.
- What to do
- Run fast.com, then play a music video demo for 10 minutes.
- Success check
- No buffering; Now Playing and lyrics update within two seconds.
- Common pitfall
- Customer Wi-Fi saturation can kill bandwidth during peak hours — keep venue and customer networks separate.
-
Check phone control
Make sure the staff member who needs access can reach the controls from the same network.
- What to do
- Open app.autovj.club/control on the staff phone, signed in with the same Google account as the main display.
- Success check
- Phone actions reflect on the main display in one to two seconds.
- Common pitfall
- Different accounts on main and control stops sync cold. Same account always.
-
Define a fallback
Agree on the scene or preset everyone should return to if something feels off during operation.
- What to do
- Pick one "safe" preset, share it with all staff in writing, and document how to return to it.
- Success check
- A new staff member can reach the safe preset within 30 seconds.
- Common pitfall
- Informal fallback knowledge fails under pressure. Print it.
Top five on-the-day failures
- PC slept and went black
- Setting up an hour before doors and leaving the PC idle often leads to a black screen right as service starts. Disable sleep, confirm AC power.
- Swapping HDMI drops fullscreen
- Display topology changes break the browser's fullscreen state. Re-enter fullscreen after any cable change.
- Customer Wi-Fi congests and playback stalls
- Common after 10pm. Prepare a venue-only SSID or a wired connection.
- Phone controls do not reach the main display
- Nine times out of ten, different Google accounts. Verify both sign-in states.
- Blackout during DJ changeover
- Sharing an HDMI path with DJ hardware is the usual cause. Split always through a switcher or splitter.
